The Competition for District 15

Your Job:

  • Your job as a voter or potential supporter of a candidate is to decide what they stand for and if their positions are positions that you want to support and encourage in our leadership. You need as much information as possible. That information so far is very hard to obtain from most of our candidates. Most of the candidate’s web sites do not have any specific information on their values, their positions, their views – you cannot tell where their heart is. That makes it pretty hard to know if they are someone you want to support with your time, your money, and your vote.

Although some advisors have told me to be more vague in my material, I disagree. If I am going to ask for your trust to support my candidacy for congress, I have to open myself to you so that you know where I stand and what fire burns in my belly that will make me work for you. You need to feel secure in the knowledge that I am not doing this just to further a political career or earn influence for later trading in for riches.

  • State Senator Bill Posey, Republican
Bill seems like a nice guy. He has worked in the Florida State Senate for quite a few years, and has talked a lot about fighting the insurance companies, but has not been able to accomplish much. He is a conservative Republican - he votes, for example, against a woman's right to choose. He seems quiet, and will undoubtedly continue "do-nothing-Dave's" legacy as a Republican rubber-stamper. If McCain were to assume the "Third Bush Term", Posey in this seat would make it harder to fight against the 100-year Iraq war and bombing Iran and harder to fight for rolling back the Bush tax cuts and expanding health care and education.

     Bill's web site says:

    • Known nationwide for his innovation in bringing greater accountability to government, Bill authored the book Activity Based Total Accountability (ABTA), which has become the guideline for bringing greater accountability to government nationwide.

    • “It is the reason I am running for Congress,” Posey has said, referring to his successes in cutting waste and making government more accountable at both the state and local level. I have the record and experience of getting things done, and this is a fight worth fighting. We’re going to Washington and we are going to make a difference.”

I guess he thinks that no one else is for financial accountability? But what I want to ask him is about all the other accountability - MORAL accountability. Is he for holding people accountable for torture? For an illegal war? For abusing our constitutional rights by illegally wiretapping our conversations? THAT is also accountability! Let's ask Bill to answer that question!

  •  Paul Rancatore, Democrat

    Paul's material says of him:

    • He is an active Air Force Reserve Officer serving at the Pentagon in the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s National Security and Space Office. He is the Director for the Commercialization of Human Space Flight and is responsible for creating and enhancing relationships on Human Space Flight between the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, federal agencies, and civil and commercial sectors. This unparalleled experience gives him expert knowledge into the specific needs of the district’s Space, Aerospace and Military communities.

  • Now I really haven't a clue what this means. I don't know what his values are, what he plans on doing, or why he is running. This confuses me. I thought he lived in Vero Beach and that he was a full-time pilot. I also thought the Air Force Reserve is a two-week per year job. So I am not clear about what he does at the Pentagon (in just two weeks?) and why that matters to us. It sounds Republican to me. It sounds also like a lot of puffery. I suppose I should stop describing myself as a Family Physician - since it is really much more - I guess I could rewrite my qualifications to say:

Dr. Stephen Blythe has displayed proven leadership that has saved hundreds, if not thousands, of lives over the past two decades. His expertise and leadership get the job done! Utilizing constantly updated advanced scientific techniques, he leads a group of over 2,000 individuals in developing plans at maximizing utilization, efficiency, and overall output of their physical and mental capabilities. Using techniques ranging from advanced pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, naturopathic principles, surgical intervention, and physical modalities, and with up to thirty scheduled conferences daily, he works to achieve optimal results, even when artificially constrained by limitations on financial resources. His efforts constantly include TQM and CQI principles – to this end many hours per week are also spent retrieving the latest scientific data both electronically and through print media. These constant TQM efforts include the latest in electronic data storage and retrieval and telecommunication technologies to allow optimally efficient provider-patient and inter-provider interface. In some of these areas Dr. Blythe has set the standard for this community. His unparalleled experience gives him expert knowledge into the personal needs of the district’s people.

  • Now doesn't that sound better?  -sb
